At my last job, there was someone who parked in our garage who always kept their car under a cover. Out of respect, I always resisted the urge to peek a look under the cover, but judging from the boxiness, I always assumed it was something like an 80s Merc.
Anyway, I’m not sure how I feel about it. On the one hand, it must be nice to not have your car covered in exhaust fumes and I’m sure the cover provides at least some protection from dings and scratches.
On the other hand, like parking across multiple spaces, I feel like it’s never productive to bring more attention to your car if your goal is to avoid vandalism. I mean, some people are just assholes, and just knowing that someone cares about their car is enough to trigger them. Plus, I suspect most people won’t be able to resist lifting the cover to see what’s so important that it gets parked under a cover.
I don’t think I’d do it, personally, but I was thinking about it. Right now I’m parking on the top floor of a parking garage, so I have shades up to avoid sun damage, but a cover would certainly be better and make life easier.
I spend far too much time agonizing over protecting a car with a rock-bottom KBB value.

Ddi the person cover their car every day or was the car just parked there because the owner was like nowhere else to keep this so I am leaving it here? I imagine the paint was likely scratched like crazy if the former as they would need to clean it every time before covering. I know someone at my country club who covers their vette when they come and play on the weekends but I live in Florida so I can kind of understand but the paint is probably horrible.
Also are you crazy! Get off the top floor of the garage.

That’s a good point. I always assumed the owner was parking it daily, but I guess they could have been storing it there. Monthly parking for employees was around $400 a month, but this was in Manhattan, so I guess that’s actually a better option than street parking or other garages if you already live in the city anyway.
I don’t have a choice, sadly. The lot fills so quickly and early that it’s permit only by 7 AM.

It’s not unheard of around here. I don’t really get it in an interior parking garage...The pulling on and off of the cover causes (very minor) clear coat/wax/sealant blemishes as little dirt particles or whatever get embedded in the fabric over time...kind of counter productive. Long term storage is a different story, but many of the ones I see are dailys.
Anyhow, if I owned something that I thought needed to be under a cover indoors I wouldn't subject it to the daily grind...it'll get sandblasted by normal commuting...so yeah, I don't understand it, but whatever, their car.

Solution to people peeking:
Monogrammed car cover

I just tend to be overly obsessive about keeping my cars safe.
Even in my Town Car, I take corner spots and park way over, even though someone else would probably do more damage to their own car if they hit it with their door.

my father used to put one over his toyota pickup because the overspray from the ship painting would get on the truck. In a regular parking garage, like you said, I would be afraid it would attract the wrong attention. But hopefully in an office parking lot, people have grown up enough to not be total douches.

My old apartment building had an underground garage. It was a really old building so water dripped in a few spots, and after a while I noticed that it left weird crusty rainbow stains in the paint. Those stains would only come out with claybar, so I started covering it.

I did that for a few months when I first got my new 3, but then I got sick of dealing with 75 sq-ft of car cover and haven’t used it since.

I’m going to leave my car without a cover in the sub basement garage (P3 yo!) over winter. I doubt a cover would help much to be honest. The particulates in the air are usually very small, and while damaging to our lungs nothing like that will damage the paint unless a tree branch comes down or something.

But then they’ll be like, “sweet, an NSX, I’m gonna peek under there!”

True. Then again, I would only leave my NSX to refuel it.
